Why Choose Us?

We make it our job to understand the way small business works and how we can support you without costing you the earth!

Small-medium business commercial lawyers

That’s all we do – business work, small business work.   Sure, our background is with big firms, and that equips us with many experiences many small firms don’t have.   And today, our passion is working only with small business.

At Stevensen Business Lawyers, we speak to business owners and operators every day and understand the needs and difficulties of starting, running and growing a business with less than 100 employees.

And we also understand that sometimes 100 employees would feel like a Big business as you juggle your sales, admin, production, even making sure the rubbish gets taken away!

Knowing this, you will find we never offer you one-size-fits all expensive legal advice but will tailor our advice to your particular needs, whether you are working from home, running a retail business, an IT company or in the manufacturing, export, information or service industries.

Why can we boast so many satisfied clients? Ones who keep coming back to us and referring us over and over again?   We know it’s because we are intent on listening to your needs, and then being smart with advice and solutions and we consistently are providing a great value service.  And we are determined to keep this reputation and continue giving unbeatable value.

Quality and Passion

Quality means experience when choosing legal advisors. Founder and Principal Solicitor Tamira Stevensen was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in 1991 and has over 10 years’ experience in both New South Wales and Victoria.

Tamira has worked for leading large law firms including Freehill Hollingdale & Page and Allen Allen & Hemsley and has extensive experience with both commercial contracts and litigation across a wide variety of industries and legal areas.  So lessons learned at the ‘big end’ of town have been adapted and sharpened to form the basis of a smart, practical, down to earth way of approaching client issues, and looking for successful outcomes.

By specializing in providing services to small-medium businesses only, Stevensen Business Lawyers is able to deliver a much more tailored service than your local Solicitor who may be juggling family and personal injury law with commercial law.

No more nasty legal bills

Your electrician can provide you with a fixed rate, so why not your lawyer? At Stevensen Business Lawyers we believe in providing up-front estimates with a Fixed-rate Fee and a competitive hourly rate for extra work.  Now how’s that for a different approach?!

Once you accept our Cost Estimate, you can pay a fixed amount up-front into our Trust Account.  This money is not accessed until your matter has been successfully finalized and billed to your satisfaction. Then we will access our fee. You don’t need to fear opening any nasty bills again.

Competitive Fees & Affordability

When running a small business you need to know where every dollar is going. At Stevensen Business Lawyers we try to avoid unnecessary overheads such as expensive city rents and can instead pass on the cost savings to you with affordable rates. You’ll find that it’s big business experience and quality at a small business price.  Why?   Because we are passionate about using our skills and experience to support the growth of small business, making your lifestyle the dream you set out for it to be.

We offer Fixed-rate Estimates for many commercial documents. For other advice we may charge hourly rates. Our rates are very competitive, please call us on 02 9789 3221 for a no-obligation Estimate.

No-nonsense and ethical approach

Industry jargon and confusing legal terms - that’s not what you can expect from us.  We’ll tell it to you straight, often coupled with raw advice, not just what we think you want to hear.   We’ll keep you informed, that’s our service approach – one that will allow you to be in control of your legal decisions. We will advise you honestly and openly what could happen if you follow a legal course of action and allow you to decide what is best for your company.

We aim to keep communication fast and clear and make the most of digital communication such as email, to keep you informed at all times.

Mobile Service and Distance Services (NSW)

Yes, that’s right, we’ll come to you.   We operate a mobile service across Sydney’s Inner West, West and South-West. We will come to you for an initial meeting at low cost. By providing a mobile service, we are able to reach out to clients who rarely have time to leave their premises, and we’re flexible with times.

Our premises are located in Canterbury, Sydney. However, we have clients as far afield as Malaysia and Melbourne. Using digital technology we are able to prepare advice and get it to you quickly, even if you are located in a rural area.

Results-Driven

We aim to get the best result for you – not the most legal fees for us.
We’re not ‘learning’ on your case, we’re  experienced in effectively managing the legal process, and this means that with a depth of accuracy, we can estimate how long your case will take before the Courts and most importantly, find the best way to drive your matter to a settlement sooner than that.

It is our promise to you that at all times we strive to advise you of the legal options open to you and the results of these actions, and work swiftly towards getting the result that you want.  And sometimes, we need to help you take the emotion out, and just look at the practicality.

A holistic approach for any stage of your business

We can look at your business as a whole, not just issue by issue.  Whether your business is in start-up phase, expanding or winding down we can advise you from a legal and commercial law standpoint of the best actions to take. At Stevensen Business Lawyers, we are prepared to go beyond our brief to help your business be commercially viable, including drawing upon the specialist services in other fields such as accountants and business coaches.

With experience and connections to business advisors and organisations supporting small businesses such as Chambers of Commerce, we don’t just see the legal angles. We see the whole business picture and your outcome becomes our outcome for you.

Business Networks

Stevensen Business Lawyers works closely with Chambers of Commerce, Business Networks and organisations that support and advise small-to-medium businesses. We take an active role in local business organisations so that we get a very broad knowledge that further enables us to understand what your concerns are.

Our affiliates include accountants, business advisors, family lawyers, mortgage and financial planners, barristers and legal specialists. If we can’t assist you, we can put you in touch with someone who can.

Plain English – We speak your language

As we’ve said before, we’ll tell it to you straight.  We’ll be informative and direct, to communicate most effectively with you. We speak plain English without legal jargon so that you can be well informed and make the best choice for your business.

Legal issues, processes, options and costs will all be clearly explained to you by an experienced professional. If you are thinking of starting litigation, it’s important that you have a realistic understanding of the main aspects.

What it is going to cost? How long it is going to take? What documentation is needed? And what are you likely to gain from settling or going to a full Court hearing?

Concise contracts and commercial documents

Simple and concise is often better – even in the legal world.

By keeping the contracts we prepare for you in plain and clear English we empower you to take charge of the legal aspects of your business to get the best results. And we do our best to avoid ambiguities that could result in confusion or Court action later.

Customer-Service Oriented

If possible, we’ll take your call or phone you straight back.  It’s our policy to be available to assist you immediately over the phone or mobile anytime within normal business hours. We promise to respond to your inquiry within 24 hours.

Our lawyers and support staff will provide a fast estimate service and return your calls and emails promptly so you can meet your deadlines.  And then we ask for feedback and strive to continually improve our service to you.
